The MEMPHIS TEACHER RESIDENCY believes that urban education is the greatest civil rights and social justice issue in America today. In order to make a sustained and positive impact on Memphis’ urban schools, Memphis Teacher Residency (MTR) recruits, trains, and supports teachers within a Christian context. Applicants are not required to have a degree in education. Residents earn a Masters in Urban Education while attaining competency in maturity areas (Cultural, Instructional, and Character) that provide a foundation for success in the classroom and personally. Following the one-year residency/training year, residents commit to teaching for three consecutive years within a Memphis high-need school.
Other benefits of the program include:
*Masters of Arts in Urban Education through Union University (tuition provided)
*Intensive classroom experience with a Mentor-Teacher within an urban school
*State of Tennessee Educator License
*$12,000 stipend for the 12 month training period
*Participant/cohort fellowship and community
*Weekly evaluation and mentoring by an MTR coach
