Write a Cover Letter

A cover letter introduces you and your resume to potential employers. If well-written, it connects your qualifications to a specific job and kindles the employer's interest in you. Many employers say that a strong cover letter can be the key to securing an interview. The purpose of a cover letter may vary; you may write to respond to a job or internship listing or you may write to introduce yourself in hopes of securing a face-to-face meeting for networking or a potential interview. You may have to work hard to find the name of the person you need to write, but you will have a much stronger letter if personally addressed versus the prospect of sending a letter that is poorly addressed (e. g. "Dear Human Resources" or "To whom it may concern").

Be sure to read your final version carefully and also have it read by a friend and/or a member of our staff. It must be error-free, and the spellcheck feature will not help you if you have selected the wrong word!
